Improve Your Fuel Economy with These Tips!

Everybody wants to save money. One of the ways you can do this is by improving your fuel economy. Gas prices always seem to be rising, but you can reduce your consumption by following several tips.

Fuel Economy

The first way to improve your fuel economy is by making sure your tires are filled. Tires that are running low on air require your vehicle to work harder, raising your gas consumption. Check your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure level and then check your tires to make sure they aren’t under-inflated.

Next, drive smoothly. Accelerating quickly and braking quickly can cause your vehicle to guzzle gas. Rather than making sudden changes in speed, ease your vehicle into stops and accelerate at a slower and smoother pace. This can increase your miles per gallon (mpg) to as much as 35 percent.

Using cruise control can actually improve your fuel economy. Cruise control drives your vehicle as smoothly as possible, helping you to use less gas when getting from here to there.

If you are running errands, plan your trip with gas mileage in mind. Visit the location furthest from your home first, then navigate through your other stops in order from furthest to closest to your home. Avoid backtracking to make the most of your mileage and save money at the pump.

Staying on top of routine maintenance is another way to improve your fuel economy. Neglecting routine maintenance and repairs can cause your car, truck, or SUV to run less efficiently. • This has been checked with a fuel flow meter. Its also better to accelerate quickly up to speed and then slacken off, than slowly. I can get an extra 6mpg by doing this (20% saving in my van)
