Car Maintenance isn’t Scary! Check Out These Simple DIY Tasks

It’s that time of year when all of our thoughts turn to spooky fun, fall festivals and Halloween. One thing that shouldn’t be scary is your car’s maintenance. If you are spooked by your car’s maintenance needs, there are some things you can do yourself to take the scare out of car maintenance

Do-It-Yourself Maintenance

Tire Pressure Check

Although you live in a state where having a hard freeze is extremely rare, you will want to check your defroster. That’s because your defroster not only get rid of icy or frosty windows, but it also helps defog your windows as well. Anyone who’s lived in Florida for a while knows how foggy it can get in South Florida in the winter. If it takes more than a minute for your defroster to defog a window, have someone check it.

Next, be sure that your oil has been changed recently and it’s all ready to go trick or treating for Halloween, as well as that trip to Grandma’s house next month. Your oil should be completely changed between every 3000 and 5000 miles. While you’re checking your oil, you may want to check your windshield wipers as well. You don’t want to find out that your windshield wipers aren’t working in the middle of a fall storm.

Also, you need to check your tires and your tire pressure. As the weather cools off, your tires deflate naturally. Look at the owner’s manual for a glimpse into the recommended psi for your tires. While you’re checking your tire pressure, check the tread as well. If your tread is worn, shows pieces of metal, or has uneven wear, you need to have a tire replaced, or have your car’s alignment checked.
